چکیده
aBstract Intelligence is a highly heritable complex trait. The proportion of variance in intelligence that is attributable to genetic factors ranges from 40% in young childhood to 80% in late adulthood. In the past decade, considerable progress has been made in molecular genetics technologies, which facilitates the detection of the actual genetic factors that underlie the high heritability of intelligence. In this chapter we provide an overview of the progress that has been made to date in identifying genetic variants for intelligence using various methods from genetic linkage to genome wide association studies. In addition we discuss a number of challenges to identify genetic variants associated with intelligence, and provide suggestions for future directions.
